The Game Dev Experience #0
Hello there! My name is PhantomJam and welcome to the corner. Today, I will be talking about game development. Now, I think I can speak to the fact that many gamers have thought,
“I bet I could do that. “
I have thought that many times, so I’m going to put that to the test and actually try.
This is going to be a series from now on, so I will post updates periodically. I’m calling it “The Game Dev Experience,“ because it isn’t really a devlog, as I don’t know how to make games or have experience. This is really a log of me learning how to make games and then hopefully making a bigger game.
So far, I am decently fluent in Scratch, and am practicing Lua, specifically Pico-8.
Here’s what I have:
It’s a small walking simulator. I haven’t been able to code anything besides just walking. I want to make it something similar to “Journey of the Prairie King“ from Stardew Valley.
I tried to make a walking cycle. I haven’t been able to do it right, though. I also haven’t been able to implement music/sounds.
And I’ve made:
It’s an idle/exponential score type game, similar to Cookie Clicker or any tycoon game. The thing on the main game screen is supposed to be a furnace. I want to add upgrades or other stuff. Maybe you could buy more furnaces, or the furnaces drop metal that you sell instead of just getting money.
If you have any tips, please tell me in the comments. Even if you don’t have tips, tell me if you want to hear more about my progress. I will keep doing this unless people actively say they don’t want to hear about it. See ya!

Please keep posting about your game dev experience! I’m excited to read about it and learn along with you. ☺️
